By Paul Demerico, ’88 , Business Symposium co-chair
The Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business at Shenandoah University is hosting its annual business symposium on Friday, April 1, 2016. Now in its eighth year, the symposium is designed to inspire and educate large and small businesses, service and not-for‐profit organizations, as well as business-focused students and educators, and is the signature event of the Byrd School Advisory Board, co-led this year by Paul Delmerico and David Baxa.
This year’s symposium theme, “The New Reality: Meeting The Challenge,” reflects the reality that our business, technological and social environment is changing rapidly and that understanding these changes is the first step towards succeeding in the evolving economy.
The pace of change in today’s world offers both new opportunities and challenges which can be exhilarating and intimidating at the same time. Whether you are part of a large multinational corporation, an entrepreneur, managing a not-for-profit organization or a business student, these changes in our economy, technology, culture and demographics can affect us all. The business symposium will help you keep pace with these changes while providing a touch point and reminder of timeless principles of leadership and business management.
This year’s keynote speakers are Patrick Jephson and William Beaman of Jephson Beaman, an internationally recognized brand and reputation management company based in Washington, D.C., and London. They are experts in critical aspects of brand and reputation management, with experience advising clients ranging from individuals to corporations, not-for-profits and political parties. Their clients include royal households in Europe and Asia, Ferrari, Harrods, PBS and many others.
In addition to a world-class keynote address, symposium attendees can choose from multiple breakout and networking sessions covering a wide range of business topics selected to educate, inspire and provide tactical tips and tools to use right now.
“We look forward to welcoming several hundred people from throughout the region to the Byrd School,” said Miles Davis, Ph.D., dean of the Byrd School of Business. “The event has grown to become the area’s largest Business Symposium because we provide a tremendous amount of learning and inspiration to the business community at a very reasonable cost. The event is made possible by the generous support of our all our sponsors as well as our special benefactor, The Pruitt Foundation, and this year’s title sponsor, First Bank”.
