The 2016 Shenandoah Conservatory Jazzathon begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 15, and concludes at 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. The event starts with a performance by the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, featuring the music of Jazz Composer-in-Residence and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies Alan Baylock, M.M. Performances will continue on campus and the Old Town Winchester walking mall.
The annual Jazzathon features continuous jazz performances for 25 hours (25 hours for its 25th year!). Funds raised by this year’s Jazzathon will support the upcoming Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble tour of the Northwest—Seattle and Vancouver/Victoria British Columbia—in May 2017.
There are three ways to support this year’s Jazzathon:
- Jazz students obtain pledges (similar to a walk-a-thon)
- Local businesses can purchase advertising in the form of signage fronting the bandstand during the event
- Supporters can give one-time donations through the Shenandoah University Office of Advancement by clicking here
Funds raised in previous years have provided support for guest artists, benefitting students and the greater community, as well as travel opportunities for performing groups. Jazz students and faculty have participated in several performance tours around the world in countries such as China, Senegal, Ireland, Germany, and more.
