New graduates must understand what today’s workforce requires of them: people skills are a must, as is a willingness to learn further, a thorough understanding of social media, and the ability to adapt to ever-changing technology. But, career readiness isn’t only a student responsibility. Employers play a role, too.
Join Miles Davis, Ph.D., dean of Shenandoah University’s Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business, and The River 95.3 FM radio personality Janet Michael on The Valley (Business) Today as they discuss how employers can better prepare new employees for entry into the workforce by not only offering instruction and advice, but by recognizing the particular needs and talents of their youngest staffers.
“Often young people are more comfortable with technology than the people who are hiring them, Dr. Davis says. “Sometimes that appears as a degree of arrogance, and older people can sometimes feel resentful. Quite frankly, we all need to learn to live with the transition and support it. Employers, one thing young people are used to, in this era of Twitter and Instagram, is instant feedback. They don’t want to wait a year for performance reviews.”
