A study by Performing Arts Medicine Program Dance Physical Therapist Lyndsey Ford, D.P.T., and Director and Associate Professor of Athletic Training Rose Schmieg, D.H.Sc., was published in the November 2014 issue of JOPERD: The Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance.
Their journal article, titled “Implementing a Foot-screening Clinic for University Musical Theater Students: A Pilot Program,” details a foot-screening process implemented to:
• give performers “basic background knowledge on common injuries related to feet”
• teach performers “how to identify what type of arch and foot they have”
• disseminate “information on treatment strategies and injury prevention both during performance and in everyday life”
• provide “an interprofessional education learning experience for the students involved”
This is the first peer-reviewed journal article that has been published from the Performing Arts Medicine Program at Shenandoah. Read the full article here.
