Mission: Possible

One of Shenandoah University’s core values is “dedication to citizenship, professional service and global outreach.” So, on occasional Saturday mornings throughout the academic year, students, faculty and staff gather in the Goodson Chapel / Recital Hall parking lot and then head out to nearby locations, where they volunteer their time and energy to enhance life for others. On any Saturday, groups might:

  • work with at-risk children at the Boys and Girls Club
  • build a house with Habitat for Humanity
  • harvest surplus produce from the fields at a farm
  • help stock a local food pantry
  • entertain residents at a local nursing home
  • sort material at the recycling center
  • care for cats and dogs at the SPCA

“Being able to go out and know your work is positively affecting others is a wonderful feeling. Time is the most important gift we can give anyone, and giving that gift on a Saturday morning – when you could sleep in – is what life is all about.”– Micah Melton, business major
