Spiritual Life Mission Trips
Winter Break Service Learning trip to the Bahamas/December 2014
Staff and students will travel to the Bahamas to work with Bahamas Methodist Habitat to build houses as well as visit orphanages and be in community with residents of the island. This trip offers students an opportunity to gain experience creating relationships across the world and empowers them to become global citizens.
Spring Break Medical Mission Trip to Brazil / March 2015
For the third year, faculty and students from the Division of Nursing boarded the John Wesley Medical Boat in March 2015. The boat routinely travels along the Amazon River in Brazil, stopping often to provide care for residents of isolated communities along the river’s banks. These trips offer Shenandoah nursing students an incredible opportunity to develop their skills, broaden their experience and have extraordinary out-of-classroom nursing lessons.
Medical Mission Trip to Nicaragua / May 2015
During its annual trip to Leon, Nicaragua, the Shenandoah University Medical Mission Team aided the impoverished families living in the spectacular mountain setting of Leon and Matagalpa. Graduate students in physician assistant studies and pharmacy served in one of three rural clinics run by El Ayudante, a Christian mission organization. They gained clinical experience by providing medical care for people who would otherwise have none. They also made friends and learned about the root causes of poverty.
