Brass Ensembles

Director: Wayne Wells

SU Brass Ensemble

Featuring the finest brass players at Shenandoah Conservatory, the 14-piece brass ensemble has traveled throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, performing at schools and community events. The group's repertoire features an exciting and eclectic mixture of old and new, ranging from Gabrieli, Bach and Purcell, to Tomasi, Dave Brubeck and Chick Corea.

In May 2000, the Shenandoah University Brass Ensemble traveled to Brazil at the invitation of the Escola de Musica of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte. As part of the 500th anniversary celebration of the founding of Brazil, the ensemble performed concerts and seminars in the cities of Belo Horizonte, Ouro Preto, Marianna, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Brass students from Shenandoah Conservatory have gone on to successful careers as performers and educators throughout the United States. Undergraduate alumni of the brass ensemble have done graduate work at the Danish Royal Conservatory, the Cleveland Institute and the Manhattan School of Music. Alumni have also won performing positions with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (trombone fellowship), the Tucson Symphony Orchestra (second trumpet), the acclaimed brass quintet Synergy, and the Marine Band in San Diego, among other ensembles.
