The Graduate program in Pedagogy is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to launch a career in a private teaching studio. A solid foundation in methods and materials prepares the student for a career teaching their applied instrument to a wide range of students, from elementary through adult levels. Strategies for teaching repertoire and technique, studio management, the use of technology, the observation of master teachers, and supervised teaching in private and group settings are important components of this degree.

Master's students in music pedagogy with the appropriate preparation continue to build upon artistic skills developed at the undergraduate level. Mastery of knowledge as it relates to performance and interpretation continues to evolve through coursework designed to deepen expertise in the designated performance area. Students are encouraged to seek performance opportunities that will enhance their professional resume and profile. The Master of Music in Pedagogy culminates in the performance of a solo graduate recital and a lecture-recital focusing on a pedagogically-related topic.

The Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Pedagogy (Voice) emphasizes artistic development at the highest professional level. All students engaged in this program of study receive in-depth instruction in a broad knowledge of repertoire, music theory, music literature and pedagogical studies. Graduates of the DMA program have experienced professional success as performers in the national and international arena, as well as, obtaining positions in a collegiate setting.
