GENERAL INFORMATION
Fees · Tuition · Payment Plan

Most classes and private lessons are 32 weeks in duration beginning the first week of September, although some faculty members teach for slightly shorter terms. Each student is required to pay a non-refundable $20 registration fee once each year. The period covered by the fee extends from Sept. 1 through the following Aug. 31. The registration fee is due prior to the first lesson or class.

Tuition payments are due in full prior to the first lesson or class. However, a payment plan is available for all classes, lessons and all other programs offered by Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy. PLEASE NOTE: A late fee of $20 will be assessed to the account each month that a scheduled payment is received after the due date indicated on the monthly statement.

A signed promissory note is required to arrange a payment plan. Promissory note forms are available in SCAA office. The payment plan will divide the total tuition into equal monthly installments. The payment plan begins in October and concludes in March. Students on a payment plan receive a monthly statement and are requested to return the remittance portion of the statement with their payment. Payments that are more than 30 days late may cause discontinuation of classes or lessons.

Payment may be made by check, money order, Visa or MasterCard. Checks should include the student ID number and be payable to “Shenandoah University.” Accounts must be paid in full in order for students to participate in year-end recitals, concerts and performances.

Summer classes and lessons must be paid in full at the time of registration. The payment plan is not available for summer classes and lessons.

Financial Aid
Limited funds are available for financial aid to students who demonstrate need. Financial aid does not usually pay for lessons or classes in full, however there are a limited number of full scholarships available. The application for financial aid is available in SCAA office and must be submitted by Aug. 31. Awards are granted by November 1. To be eligible for financial aid the student must make their first regular payment in October as instructed by the promissory note. A new application must be submitted each year. SCAA reserves the right to discontinue any financial aid award because of frequent absences or tardiness or because of delinquent payments. Typical award amounts are 10 -30% of tuition.

Missed Class Policy
Regular attendance is expected of all students. Students are charged for all classes for which they register, including those missed through student absence. Classes missed due to instructor cancellation or inclement weather will be made up. Individual student absences from classes due to illness or emergency cannot be made up. Classes will be finished prior to final performances in May. Students who miss excessive classes or lessons may be removed at any point from performances and recitals at the discretion of the teacher and/or the director.

Missed Lesson Policy
Regular attendance is expected of all students. Students are charged for all lessons for which they register, including those missed through student absence. No more than two absences in case of illness or emergency will be made up per academic year. All other missed lessons due to student absence are forfeited and charged to the student. Two successive lessons missed without notice will result in loss of placement on the instructor’s schedule (the lesson slot becomes available for new students). Lessons missed due to instructor cancellation or inclement weather will be made up. All lessons should be made up prior to final performances in mid to late May.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy
If due to circumstances beyond his or her control a student is forced to discontinue instruction that has been paid for, the student may request a partial refund. Requests for refunds must be made in writing or via e-mail to the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy. Refunds will be given only on the money received on the student account at the time of the request per the guidelines listed below. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for the processing of the refund.

Refund Policy Guidelines
Registration fees are nonrefundable. A student is charged for the entire month of classes/lessons during which the study was terminated.

Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, SCAA will close when Shenandoah University is closed. The following will have a posted weather announcement:

SCAA office telephone 540-665-4602

WUSQ-FM - 102.5 FM

In the event of a closing, the missed lesson is treated as a teacher absence and will be made up at the end of the semester.

Dismissal
The Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy reserves the right to dismiss any student because of frequent absences, disciplinary reasons, delinquent tuition payments and/or parental noncompliance.
Cancellation

The Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. In the event a class is canceled, a full refund or credit of both registration fee and tuition paid will be issued within 4 to 6 weeks.
