Degree Program Options

UNDERGRADUATE

  The Bachelor of Science in Arts Management curriculum combines studies in music and management, theatre and management, or dance and management, to prepare students for careers in arts management, one of the arts industries, or both. The undergraduate arts management degree is offered with five concentrations:

The objective of the program is to produce graduates capable of:

  • Understanding and utilizing profession-specific terminology;

  • Applying administrative and management tools for decision-making processes;

  • Navigating the environments in which the arts and markets interact;

  • Maintaining awareness of issues affecting the culture and entertainment industry;

  • Communicating effectively on arts and arts administration related concerns;

  • Building a solid foundation of knowledge in a specific art form (music, theatre, or dance) as a practicing artist and arts management professional;

  • Demonstrating foundational production/project skills as an arts management practitioner; and

  • Producing desired results as related to the context of the profession and industry.

The instructional design of the curriculum combines foundational course work in the liberal arts with elective studies, art-specific course work from the Conservatory (5 differing concentration options), business-specific course work from the School of Business and arts management course work from the Conservatory. A capstone experience for the degree is a demonstration of competency through the successful completion of an arts management related internship.

  Students completing degrees in other disciplines can obtain a minor in arts management as well. The focus of the minor is on the completion of arts management course work. The objective of the minor in arts management program is to produce graduates capable of:

  • Understanding and utilizing profession-specific terminology;

  • Applying administrative and management tools for decision-making processes;

  • Navigating the environments in which the arts and markets interact;

  • Maintaining awareness of issues affecting the arts and entertainment industry; and

  • Producing desired results as related to the context of the profession and industry.

The instructional design of the minor program focuses exclusively on the completion of arts management course work through the Conservatory. A capstone experience for the minor designation is a demonstration of competency through the successful completion of an arts management related internship.

GRADUATE

  The Master of Science in Arts Administration curriculum is designed to train administrators and organizers in the arts who come to the curriculum from a variety of backgrounds in the arts.  The objective of the MSAA program is to produce graduates from the program capable of:

  • Understanding and utilizing profession-specific terminology;

  • Applying administrative and management tools for decision-making processes;

  • Navigating the environments in which the arts and markets interact;

  • Maintaining awareness of issues affecting the arts and entertainment industry;

  • Communicating effectively on arts and arts administration related concerns;

  • Broadening their ability to work with differing and multiple art forms;

  • Conducting problem-based research to advance the science of the profession; and

  • Producing desired results as related to the context of the profession and industry.

The instructional design of the graduate program combines course work from the Conservatory in arts administration as well as course work from the School of Business in business administration.  A capstone requirement for the graduate degree is a demonstration of competency through the successful completion of a comprehensive exam.
