With
a reputation for excellence
in musical instruction dating back to 1875, Shenandoah offers arts
management students opportunities for study in established artistic
traditions leading to careers in performance, teaching, and other
fields requiring musical competence. Shenandoah is the school for
the serious arts management student seeking superior instruction
with artist-teachers in an ideal setting: a large conservatory within
a small yet comprehensive university near one of the nation's major
cultural centers, Washington, DC.
Arts
managers bring the artist and the audience together. This exciting
field is growing rapidly and needs highly trained, self-motivated
professionals. Shenandoah arts management graduates are currently
pursuing professional careers in arts administration and business.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Shenandoahs
Arts Management programs prepare students for management careers
in the performing arts field, and the undergraduate program also
stresses performance skills. Graduates of the programs find employment
in the music publishing and recording industries, retail music stores,
arts organizations, professional symphonies, theatres, choirs, and
dance companies, and with concert halls and radio stations.
SPECIAL
FEATURES
The
Organization of Arts Managers is a professional organization affiliated nationally with the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators' Association. This student group serves the arts management program by coordinating seminars related to the field, maintaining contacts with alumni and friends in professional arts management positions, and assisting with internship arrangements.
The
student begins these activities in the freshman year, and by graduation
has accumulated a wide variety of work experiences. The professional
nature of these experiences prepares the student for successful
employment.
