The Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music curriculum
combines the discipline of private study in an instrument or voice, the aural
acuity learned in ensemble participation and the experience with recording and MIDI
systems into an exciting and creative major.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The skills acquired in the classroom and in practical situations combined
with the musicianship acquired through ensemble performances qualifies the
commercial music graduates for a number of careers including recording engineer,
freelance pop music composer, songwriter, producer or recording artist.
Graduates of the commercial music curriculum are also prepared to pursue
advanced degrees.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The specialized course work and career preparation of the commercial
music curriculum at Shenandoah University are supported by frequent
opportunities for practical skill application. The Recording Practicum program
provides four semesters of practical experience working in three general areas:
recording live concerts and recitals, providing sound reinforcement, and
assisting in the studio with actual recording sessions. Shenandoah University
has a fully equipped 24 track studio with a full complement of MIDI
equipment.
