Opportunities
Opportunities to perform and collaborate are almost limitless
with the Conservatory's performing ensembles and more than 300 performing
arts events on campus each year. The Breadth of Study requirement
expands studentsâ awareness of the interrelated nature of all the
performing arts and exposes them to the wealth of talent and artistic
expression within Shenandoah's artistic community.
The
Dance Division presents three mainstage dance concerts and two Performance
Forum concerts annually, with many additional opportunities to perform
throughout the year. Students have performed throughout the region,
including concerts as the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, the
Maryland Publick Playhouse and in Universities and public schools
in Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.
Dance students participate yearly in the regional conference of
The American College Dance Festival Association.
Shenandoah
Dance Ensemble
Shenandoah
Dance Ensemble is the performing outlet
for members of the Dance Division at Shenandoah University. The
Ensemble performs twice yearly in the university's new Ohrstrom-Bryant
Theatre and tours through out the Commonwealth of Virginia. A grant
from the Virginia Commission of the Arts enabled the Shenandoah
Dance Ensemble to tour overseas in England and Scotland during the
summer of 1998 where their performances were received with great
enthusiasm. The commission of new musical scores and live musical
accompaniment plays a vital role for the Shenandoah Dance Ensemble,
creating a more rich experience for their audience. A broad
range of repertoire including ballet, modern and jazz dance styles
allows the ensemble to tailor performances to a wide variety of
audiences and venues. The Shenandoah Dance Ensemble offers evening
length concerts, interactive lecture-demonstrations for children,
and master classes in dance technique.
stillMOVING
The
faculty dance company,
stillMOVING, features members of the Dance Division faculty in repertoire
that explores a diverse range of expressive material, including
movement, music and text. Formed
in the Fall of 1999, this company of seasoned performers has enjoyed
great success in their initial appearances on campus and in the
greater performance community. Members
of the company have performed in the Maryland Publick Playhouse's
17th Annual Choreographer's Showcase, for the Asian Pacific
American Heritage Month Celebration, at Joy of Motion and Dance
Place in Washington, DC, and for various Winchester First Fridays
events.
