Shenandoah Conservatory's undergraduate arts management curriculum balances concentrated study in both the performing arts and business. Arts managers bring the artist and the audience together. This exciting field is growing rapidly and needs highly trained, self-motivated professionals.
A two-semester introductory course in arts management begins the series
of practical experiences. An overview of career opportunities and the
development of publicity skills are included. Four specialized courses focus on
arts management in the profit sector, non-profit sector, electronic media, and
the entertainment industry. Business support includes courses in personal
finance, accounting, business law, human resources management, marketing, and
economics. The curriculum includes speech, technical writing, and computer
skills, and is supported by a core of liberal arts courses.
The Organization of Arts Management Students is a professional organization affiliated nationally with the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators' Association. This student group serves the arts management program by coordinating seminars related to the field, maintaining contacts with alumni and friends in professional arts management positions, and assisting with internship arrangements.
In addition to theatre, the arts management curriculum offers
concentrations in dance and music.
