The Bachelor of Arts in Arts Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Arts Studies is an interdisciplinary program that integrates study in music, theatre, dance, literature and visual art; supporting this study is a broadly-based foundation in the liberal arts.

The arts studies curriculum is designed for the student interested in several of the arts disciplines. It is also a suitable program for students wishing to explore one or more of the arts as a specific curriculum major. Students seeking to enter the arts studies program complete the procedures for admission as outlined by the Admissions Office; no audition is required.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Bachelor of Arts in Arts Studies degree is an appropriate pre-professional preparation for graduate study in a variety of fields leading to such careers as arts criticism, arts journalism, publishing, and arts advocacy.  

FACULTY  

Because of its broad, interdisciplinary nature, the Arts Studies program counts all the professors of Shenandoah Conservatory and the College of Arts and Sciences as its major faculty.

CURRICULUM  

The faculty advisor assists each arts studies major in developing a curriculum that meets the university's academic requirements and the student's individual interests.

Arts studies majors receive their aesthetic education through a wide variety of introductory and advanced courses in the literary, visual and performing arts. All majors study the basic theories and histories of music, theatre, dance, art and literature, and complete the program with electives focusing on one or more areas of the arts, as each student's interests and talents dictate.
