Master of Music Education

Music Education Home

The Master of Music Education degree is designed to provide students with opportunities to enhance and develop skills and knowledge. The curriculum includes three general areas of study: music education; applied music, accompanying, and conducting; and music history and theory. Graduate study culminates with either a Thesis or Research/Teaching Project.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree in music, or equivalent, prior to admission into the program. Most applicants present a baccalaureate degree in music education and are licensed teachers. Specific teaching licensure requirements are generally met through an approved undergraduate degree. Applicants who seek licensure should expect to complete additional courses in music teaching methodology. Applicants who do not hold or seek licensure may be admitted under special consideration. In addition, all applicants must complete a Music Education Diagnostic Examination in the form of a 200 word (no more) writing sample. Specific information regarding this examination is available in the Conservatory Office. A performance audition is not required.

Degree Requirements: The degree requirement is 30 credit hours with grades of B or better in required courses and a grade point average of 3.000.
