Master of Music in Pedagogy
The Master of Music in Pedagogy
curriculum is designed for students who
seek careers as teachers of applied music. The curriculum addresses management and
technological issues as well as repertoire and technique considerations.
Entrance Requirements
Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree
with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in music or the
equivalent, including presentation of a full solo recital or the equivalent. Large and
small ensemble and chamber music experiences on the major instrument are expected. An
audition in the primary applied teaching area is required.
Degree Requirements
The degree requirement is 30 credit hours with grades of B or better in
required courses and a grade point average of 3.00.
Master of Music in Pedagogy
- (Instrumental and Vocal)
Students must complete MUED 698
Research/Teaching Project - to credits, following the requirements described in
the Shenandoah Conservatory Thesis and Research/Teaching Project
Guidelines.
Master of Music in Pedagogy
- (Piano)
Students must complete one Graduate
Solo recital (MUPP 540 - 2 credits) and a Graduate Lecture Recital (MUTC
698 - 2 credits)
For the Performance Recital, students
must present a balanced program of repertoire totaling 55 minutes of music to be
performed by memory (with the exception of 20th century avant-garde repertoire).
For the Lecture Recital, students must submit a written document and present a
45 minute performance/lecture on the results of their research.

registered for that course for at least one credit each Fall and Spring semester
until the requirement is fulfilled.
Registration and billing are automatic until the requirement is fulfilled
or the student submits a written statement of withdrawal from the curriculum.
