The comprehensive curriculum of the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies incorporates classical and jazz private study and course work. Students major in the instrument of their choice and minor in both classical and jazz piano. In addition, saxophone majors are required to attain competence on flute and clarinet. Students complete applied study in both the classical and jazz idioms, thus enhancing their opportunities for success as professional musicians upon graduation.
Students in the Bachelor of Science in Arts Management programs may elect to complete their applied music and ensemble requirements by following the Jazz Applied Study Option. This is a degree for motivated people with a sense of business and an intimate knowledge of music.
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Music in Music Production and Recording Technology receive a balanced blend of technology and music study. Students earn the Bachelor of Music degree emphasizing recording, popular composition, and MIDI applications while developing as performers. A professional internship is offered in the final semester of study. Shenandoah graduates are currently working in Nashville, New York, and Boston.
The Bachelor of Music Therapy degree leads to eligibility to sit for the national examination in music therapy after the completion of academic course work, including field placements and a six month internship. The Jazz Applied Music option to the Music Therapy degree provides eight semester of jazz and four semesters of classical private study, supplemented with elective course work and ensemble participation.
