Music Education Department Home

The Music Education program at Shenandoah is one of the Conservatory's oldest and largest programs, and offers a complete curriculum, from undergraduate instruction leading to teaching licensure, to its unique practice-based doctoral program. Shenandoah graduates are active as teachers in public schools, private schools, and colleges. Many are music supervisors, program coordinators, and administrators throughout the United States.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Music education study begins in the first semester of enrollment. Students study the basic tenets of various music methodologies as an integral part of the curriculum. Throughout the academic year, lectures are supplemented with public school observations, field experience teaching, workshops, and clinics.

The Shenandoah Conservatory chapter of the Music Educator's National Conference (SCMENC) is very active and successful. Each semester SCMENC members invite guest speakers, attend workshops, and organize trips to state and national music education conferences. The chapter has been recognized nationally for its contributions to the music education profession. Individual SCMENC members have been recognized for their leadership as collegiate members.
