Audition Requirements

  All applicants seeking to enter the theatre programs must complete procedures for admission to Shenandoah University as outlined by the Admissions Office. For more information on the admissions process, see the Admissions area of this site.

  • Theatre Applicants: Those seeking to enter the acting or youth theatre programs must pass an audition administered by the theatre faculty, presenting two memorized contemporary monologues, two minutes each (maximum), reflecting the applicant's age.

  • Musical Theatre Applicants: Sixteen measures of one song from standard classical solo vocal repertoire (the song may be in English) and sixteen measures each of two songs from standard musical theatre productions (one ballad and one up-tempo); two-minute (maximum) monologue from a contemporary play that reflects the applicant’s age. Song excerpts and monologue must be memorized. Sightreading. Be prepared to participate in a movement audition (dance or work-out dress).

  • Scenic & Lighting Design and Costume Design Applicants: Submit a portfolio containing photographs of your work; draftings, designs, or art work; and programs. Letters of recommendation in support of your portfolio are recommended. An interview is required.
