Shenandoah
Dance Ensemble
Erica
Helm, Artistic Director
Shenandoah Dance Ensemble is the performing outlet for dance majors
at Shenandoah University. The Ensemble performs three times yearly
in Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre and tours through out the Commonwealth
of Virginia. A grant from the Virginia Commission of the Arts enabled
the Shenandoah Dance Ensemble to tour in England and Scotland during
the summer of 1998 where their performances were received with great
enthusiasm. In March 2000, five members of the ensemble performed
at Ulyanovsk State University in Russia, initiating a summer cultural
exchange program between Ulyanovsk and Shenandoah. Members of the
Ensemble have performed award winning repertoire created by faculty
choreographers for the National American College Dance Festival,
the Maryland Choreographic Competition and the International Jazz
Dance World Congress.
The commission of new music and live accompaniment plays a vital
role for the Shenandoah Dance Ensemble, creating a more rich experience
for its audience. A broad range of repertory, including
ballet, modern and jazz dance styles allows the Ensemble to tailor
performances to a wide variety of audiences and venues.
The Shenandoah Dance Ensemble offers full-length concerts, interactive
lecture-demonstrations for children, and masterclasses in dance
technique. For further information contact:
