Featuring
the finest brass musicians of Shenandoah Conservatory, the Brass
Ensemble has represented Shenandoah University at many university-wide
functions including graduations and International Day. The 14-piece
ensemble (4 trumpets, 4 French Horns, 3 trombones, 1 tuba and 2
percussion) travels frequently, performing in area public schools
and at community events recruiting young men and women for Shenandoah
Conservatory. Concerts by the ensemble have featured the
works of Gabrieli, Peaslee, Copland, Haufrecht, Husa and Tomasi.
In May 2000 the Brass Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble traveled
to Brazil at the invitation of the Escola de Musica of Universidade
Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte. As part of the 500th
anniversary celebration of the founding of Brazil these ensembles
performed in a variety of concerts and seminars in the cities of
Belo Horizonte, Ouro Preto, Marianna, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
