Jazz Combos

The jazz combo program at Shenandoah Conservatory is designed to offer students experience in small group settings, emphasizing improvisation and expanding repertoire. Each combo explores a variety of styles and composers, with a particular emphasis on bebop and hard bop. Other styles, such as cool, fusion, and dixieland, are explored. The combos perform throughout the semester on and off campus, at formal concerts, informal jazz forums, and in area nightspots. Student arrangements and compositions are also an important part of the repertoire.
