Cantus
Singers is a select choral organization which performs music written
especially for treble voices. Appearing frequently on campus and
in the area, the group sings a variety of the best repertoire available
from the Middle Ages to the present.
In the fall of 1999, Cantus Singers cooperated with the Dance Ensemble
in aperformance of Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols which
was also presented at the convention of the Virginia Music Educators
Association. Other performances of Cantus Singers include an appearance
at the Southern Convention of the American Choral Directors Association,
concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and a European
tour. By special invitation, the ensemble also performed at
the Viennese Opera Ball sponsored by the Ambassador of Austria.
Past directors of the group include Grammy-award winner Robert Shafer,
ACDA president, David Stutzenberger, and Professor Emeritus James
Laster.
