Fiddler on the Roof

The second show of the season is bound to make SSMT audiences happy as Hal Herman, the professional company’s producing artistic director, returns to the stage to recreate the role of Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof." This show is a must see. A poor dairyman, Tevye tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Set to a score that includes “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker,” the show unfolds with humor, warmth and honesty and leaves audiences crying with tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

July 9 - 20

Jesus Christ Superstar

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is considered to be one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s greatest musicals. As Christ’s teachings are embraced, Judas questions the new prophet’s motives, leading to betrayal. Christ’s final days are dramatized and propelled by a stirring score with libretto by Tim Rice. Some of the show’s musical highlights include “Everything’s Alright,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and the title song “Superstar.”

July 23 - August 3

The Producers

The 100th SSMT production is Mel Brooks,’ "The Producers," a laugh riot that won 12 Tony awards and ran six years on Broadway. Hilarity takes the stage when has-been producer Max Bialystock and his accountant Leo Bloom determine they can make more money by producing a flop than they could with a hit. Based on Brooks' movie starring Zero Mostel, "The Producers" is considered one of the funniest musicals ever written. SSMT is honored to be one of the first to be given the rights for this production.
