Initial Administrative Licensure

Objective

The degree will include standards for meeting Commonwealth of Virginia state licensure requirements in the area K-12 Principal and Supervisor of Instruction.

Admissions Requirements for EdD with Initial Administrative Licensure

Master’s degree with minimum 3.5 GPA
Interview with the program director
Writing sample, which demonstrates scholarly writing ability (may be met through a directed writing exercise)
Three or more letters of recommendation:

  • one from an immediate supervisor
  • at least one from someone able to address the candidate’s academic abilities
  • at least one from a professional who knows the candidate’s ability in the chosen concentration

All college transcripts.
   Applicants seeking Virginia Department of Education endorsement(s) must
      - possess a current teacher's license, a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree
      - have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience at the time of admission
      - a minimum of two years PK-12 administrative or supervisory experience at the time of admission

Initial Administrative License Concentration: K-12 Education Administration (Administrative Leadership) consists of courses approved by the Virginia Department of Education. Use of appropriate technology is integrated into the coursework of the program.
