Master of Science in Education-Emphasis in Teaching

The Master of Science in Education-Emphasis in Teaching (MSED-EIT) degree program is designed to meet the current and changing needs of classroom teachers and school systems as they strive to upgrade their skills and teaching effectiveness. The program offers a strong focus on classroom-centered research as a foundation to inform school-based reform efforts. The program is designed to meet school personnel licensure or recertification requirements in individual endorsement areas. Through a cohort system, we provide the opportunity for local and rural teachers to pursue a master's degree in teaching in a convenient, economic and timely manner. Within the degree program, teachers are able to advance their careers, enhance their individual capabilities, acquire knowledge and skills, collaborate and conduct action research to examine educational issues, test hypotheses and recommend solutions and further studies. The cohort model of delivery is designed to meet school system needs for staff development while maintaining the integrity of the degree through core, elective and research course selections. MSED-EIT is a 30 credit-hour degree program that culminates in an action-research capstone project.
