Faculty Research Day at the Library of Congress

Smith Library, The Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs are sponsoring a one-day trip to the Library of Congress for a group of 20 Shenandoah University faculty members.  All faculty, full time and adjunct, are invited. 

 

Date:  Friday, February 21, 2013

Departure from SU: Arrive on campus (location TBA) no later than 5:45 am; we will depart promptly @ 6:00 am

Arrive Library of Congress:  8:30 am

Departure from LC:  3:00 pm

Arrive at SU: 6:00 pm (approximately, depending on traffic)

 

Features of the trip include:

  • Orientation to the Library of Congress
  • Tour of the Jefferson Building
  • Registration for an individual Library of Congress Reader’s Card
  • Individual or small group meetings with LC archivists or librarian specialists
  • Time for your own research

More explicit research questions such as these would help match you with an LC archivist or librarian: “How and why did fabric mills develop in 19th century America?” “How did 19th century fabric mills in America affect local economies?”
