Distinguished Lecture Series

Distinguished Lecture Series, featuring Ronald Kaplan, begins with a reception at 5 p.m. in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium. Kaplan, chief executive officer of Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking products, will discuss leadership learned the hard way, based on several decades managing businesses around the world. Through a combination of personal anecdotes, video clips and hard analysis, Mr. Kaplan will share his observations about what it takes to get ahead in today’s corporate environment. Christopher K. Morgan Contemporary Modern Dance Masterclass

Christopher K. Morgan Contemporary Modern Dance Masterclass & Talkback begins at 3 p.m. in the Ewing Dance Studio. Morgan grew up in Orange County, Calif., dancing as his Hawaiian ancestors did. Discovering ballet, jazz and modern dance at age 17, he studied dance at the University of California Irvine. Two years later, he was offered a job dancing for Malashock Dance & Company in San Diego. Non-Partisan Forum of Candidates

Non-Partisan Forum of Candidates running for Virginia’s 10th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Handley Regional Library auditorium (100 W. Piccadilly St., Winchester). Forum candidates – John Foust (Democrat), Brad Eickholt (Independent), Dianne Blais’s representative (Green Party) and William Redpath (Libertarian) – will speak on national, state and local issues. Shenandoah’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Adrienne Bloss serves as forum moderator. Candidates will deliver prepared remarks. No questions from the audience or media will be accepted; however, everyone may speak with the candidates following the forum. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
