Walk to Defeat ALS

Walk to Defeat ALS, a fund-raising and awareness event, begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the intramural field behind the Brandt Student Center. The walk through campus begins at 10 a.m. Entertainment is provided by a DJ and the Shenandoah University Buzzin’ Dozen Pep Band. There will be a moon bounce for the kids, face painting and ice bucket challenge station. Food and beverages are provided by Sodexo; water is provided by Sheetz. Celebración of Winchester

Celebración of Winchester, a Hispanic Heritage Month festival, includes food vendors, traditional dances from various countries, music throughout the day, impromptu Latin dancing lessons for anyone interested, a “Salsa Tasting” for restaurants that vie for the title “Best Salsa in Winchester,” music by Alegria Musical de Mexico, a favorite local Mexican band, and Tierra Firme, Winchester’s own Latin jazz band. Kappa Epsilon’s Bowling for Boobs

Kappa Epsilon’s Bowling for Boobs begins at 6 p.m. at Northside Lanes in Winchester. Join members of Kappa Epsilon Pharmaceutical Fraternity and bowl for a cure! General admission is $15 and includes shoe rental and three games. Help raise money so local breast cancer survivors can attend KE’s Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Dinner free of charge. A portion of the proceeds also goes to the Young Survival Coalition. Sign up as a team by Sept. 12 and get general admission plus T-shirts. You may also purchase tickets and merchandise (T-shirts, breast cancer awareness flip flops, and wristbands) at the venue as well. “Portrait of Wally”

“Portrait of Wally,” a documentary film presented by the Magic Lantern Theater in collaboration with One Book One Community and the Beth El congregation, begins at 6:30 p.m. at Handley Regional Library (100 W.
