Overview of the
Environmental Studies Major

Students interested in understanding the environment and helping society solve environmental problems should consider the Environmental Studies major at Shenandoah University.      

At Shenandoah, the Environmental Studies Program
offers a Bachelor of Science degree that combines courses in the
natural and social sciences with a liberal arts core curriculum and
practical experiences in the laboratory, at field sites, and in community settings.

Students may enroll in Environmental Studies as a major or minor.

 

• Environmental Studies at Shenandoah combines breadth with depth.  The major consists of two parts:  courses required of all environmental studies students that provide an interdisciplinary understanding of the environmental field, and a concentration of specialized courses selected by the student in consultation with his or her academic advisor.

• Five concentrations are offered:  environmental analysis, environmental education, environmental policy, field biology, and international environmental studies.  Students can also elect a self-designed concentration, developed in consultation with a faculty advisor.
