Financial Aid available to qualifying graduate students:

    Federal Student Loans - both subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available to most graduate students once they have filled out a FAFSA; loan amounts up to $20,500 per year may be borrowed (pharmacy students may be eligible to borrow up to $31,000); promissory notes must be signed and loans must be approved by the U.S. Department of Education;master promissory notes may be complete online at Department of Education Web site

    Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) - available to first-time graduate students for two to four years depending on program of study and if you qualify; not available for summer study; must be a Virginia resident for at least a year and be enrolled full-time (9 or more credit hours); other conditions apply; you MUST fill out an application; currently estimated at $1,900 for the 2006/07 academic year; deadline is July 31

    Alternative Loans - are available if you would like to borrow more funds and you have already met your limit on the federal student loans; applications for the various types of alternative loans are available in our office; based upon your credit history, you may need a co-signer; contact the Financial Aid Office to find out how much you are eligible for; if you would like to apply for an alternative loan on-line, you may contact Citibank, Sallie Mae ,CampusDoor. and Wells Fargo

    And then some...In addition to the types of aid mentioned above, your dean or department head can give you additional information on graduate assistantships and tuition discounts offered to certain students in different departments. For example, if you are a full-time teacher, you may be eligible for a tuition discount if you are an MSED student. Forms are sometimes required, so please contact your department for more information. Also, try Fastweb.com to search for scholarships on the Internet.
