>> Undergraduate aid is available to qualifying students: Federal Pell Grant - need-based grant for undergrads; award varies from $400 to $4,050 a year Federal SEOG - need-based grant for those students who qualify for the Pell Grant Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)) - available to first-time undergrads for up to four years if they qualify; must be a Virginia resident for at least a year and be enrolled full-time (other conditions apply); you MUST fill out an application; currently estimated at $3,110 for the 2007/08 academic year; application deadline is July 31 Presidential Scholarship - available to incoming freshmen, this scholarship is highly selective and very limited; to be considered, a student must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.8 and a score of 1200 on the SAT. Scholastic and community activites are also considered in the evaluation process; $16,000 a year for four years if students maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and enroll in at least 12 credit hours a semester; you cannot receive both a Presidential Scholarship and an Academic Scholarship Academic
Scholarship - available to incoming freshmen and transfer students;
based on grades and SAT/ACT scores (if incoming freshman) OR
cumulative GPA and number of credits transferring in (if transfer student);
no paperwork necessary to apply (we look at your information as you
are accepted to the University); renewable for four years if you are
full-time and maintain satisfactory academic progress as outlined in
our catalog; students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to keep the scholarship;
amounts vary from $2,000 to $7,000 a year Conservatory Awards - Conservatory students may be eligible to receive a scholarship; award based on grades and talent level; must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be full-time and meet requirements with the Conservatory to keep the award; awards from $2,000 to $7,000+; you cannot receive both a Conservatory award and an Academic Scholarship Achievement
Awards - limited number of these awards are available to incoming
full-time students in Arts & Sciences; amount is $2,000 annually. Regional Grant - limited number of these grants are available to incoming students; must be from regional area, such as Winchester City or the counties of Frederick/Loudoun/Rockingham/ Warren/Clark/Shenandoah/Page/Faquier/Prince William (VA) and Hampshire/Hardy/Morgan/Jefferson/ Berkeley (WV); $4,000-$5,000 annually; must be full-time with a minimal 2.5 GPA; awarded instead of the Academic Scholarship United
Methodist Scholarship
- SU Grant - need-based school funds used at director's discretion; amount varies based on student's need; re-evaluated each year; must be full-time; grant-based on extenuating circumstances not reported on the FAFSA Federal & Institutional Work Study - a part-time, on-campus job available to students; payscale varies depending on grade level (sophomores earn more than freshmen, for example); students receive bi-monthly checks payable to them; awarded as the budget allows. Federal Student Loans - both subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available to most undergrads; first-time freshmen may receive $3,500, sophomores $4,500, juniors/seniors $5,500; additional unsubsidized loan money is available if you are an independent student as defined by the Department of Education; promissory notes must be signed and loans must be approved by the U.S. Department of Education; loan master promissory notes may be complete online at Department of Education Web site Federal Perkins & Nursing Loans - need-based loans with a low, fixed interest rate (5%); awarded at director's discretion Federal
Parent PLUS loan - available to parents of dependent students; variable
interest rate is capped at 9%; loan must be credit approved by the U.S.
