Occupational Therapy

Division of Occupational Therapy Hybrid Program

Occupational Therapy

Shenandoah University Division of Occupational Therapy (SUDOT) is offering an innovative hybrid graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. For us, hybrid means a majority of the content is delivered online; however, active learning strategies are used in both the face to face and online portions of each course.  Students only come to campus one day per week but are expected to engage in over 40 hours per week in readings, discussions and innovative learning activities.  For full-time students, ten hours per week of outside employment is the maximum recommended.  Some of our unique program features are:

  • Hybrid curriculum model
  • Weekly problem-based learning case groups
  • Faculty mentoring of students
  • Challenging curriculum
  • Critical thinking
  • Personal and professional development opportunities
  • Full-time and part-time tracks available
  • Hands-on experiences every semester

Community-based experiences are offered every semester. Students, with the help of faculty and other local therapists, will engage in a variety of learning activities in their home communities. Students learn to work hands-on with clients, consult with other professionals, educate clients and families, and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.

OTCAS: Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service (http://www.otcas.org) is now available for all prospective students applying for fall 2012 admission.  We will be offering our hybrid program at two locations (Winchester, VA and Jerusalem Israel) beginning in Fall 2012 so read the OTCAS instructions carefully to make sure you are applying for your preferred site.  Please read carefully as we have the application process separate for Winchester and Israel.
