Interlibrary Loan

Please use these online forms for submitting interlibrary loan and document delivery requests. An interlibrary loan service is provided for current SU students, faculty and staff, for books and journal articles not owned by the University library. Students with more than five overdue library books or $5.00 in unpaid library bills may be blocked from receiving interlibrary loans or document delivery. All student requests should be discussed with a member of the library staff before being submitted. ILL Requests should be submitted at least two weeks before an item is needed. Both students and faculty are reminded to please check the library's Webcat online catalog and Journal Locator to identify those items that are already part of the library collections. Many journal articles may be available through one of our several full-text databases and electronic journal collections.

SU students who receive their instruction from off-campus may use the above forms for requesting document delivery of books and journal articles. For more information, contact Circulation Supervisor Becky Rockwell at (540) 665-5424.

The library subsidizes part or all of the cost of interlibrary loans for students. Faculty are responsible for any costs incurred by their requests.

The University library receives many interlibrary loan requests, so patrons with multiple requests are asked to submit them in priority order. We strive to be fair to all users, so each business day library staff will process some, if not all, items for each requestor. Students who need a large number of items may wish to visit other libraries to obtain materials. The library staff may be able to direct users to libraries with which we have reciprocal borrowing privileges.

Community users, including members of the Friends of the Library, are referred to the Handley Regional Library for interlibrary loan service. We cannot provide interlibrary loan service to community users.

Copyright law specifies that photocopies received through interlibrary loan are not to be used "for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." The library reserves the right to refuse an interlibrary loan copying request if, in its judgment, fulfillment would violate the copyright law.
