Welcome
to International Programs at Shenandoah
University
| The mission
of the International Programs Office at Shenandoah University
is to encourage, facilitate and coordinate a wide range of programs,
events and learning experiences which focus upon global education
and cultural enrichment for both domestic and foreign students.
The characteristics of International education at Shenandoah
are as follows: |
 |
- A
culturally diverse student body: Students
from 75 different countries have enrolled
at Shenandoah over the past 15 years.
Each semester approximately 200 students
(representing 7.5% of the student body)
from 30-35 different countries are
enrolled for classes.
- Faculty,
staff and students from all five schools
and divisions across the university are
actively involved in fostering
international relationships and
connections.
- Many
delegations of Shenandoah students and
faculty travel abroad each year to (1)
engage in research, professional lectures
and study projects; (2) present concerts
and masters classes in the performing
arts; and (3) visit sister schools
located around the world for cultural
enrichment and/or professional
development.
- Shenandoah
hosts 5 to 10 visiting delegations of
foreign scholars and students every year.
Visiting delegations enjoy the safe,
historical and beautiful setting of the
Shenandoah Valley. Washington, D.C., is
conveniently located only 1 hour and 15
minutes from Winchester.
- Each
academic year, 5 to 7 visiting scholars
and researchers from abroad are in
residence at the university.
- The
International Programs staff provides a
variety of support services for
international students such as cultural,
social and recreational events, pre-arrival
information, orientation, academic
advisement, immigration and visa
advisement, and personal counseling.
- The English Language
Center (ELC) provides language support
services for International students who do not yet meet the university's
English language proficiency requirements.
