Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University seeks an exceptional dance musician for a well-established, rigorous BFA program in Dance. This appointment begins immediately and runs through May 16, 2015.
About the position: The successful candidate will provide musical accompaniment for dance classes in both ballet and modern dance. For ballet dance classes, the ability to spark sensibility in artistry in classical music for our students is desired. For modern dance classes, ability as a percussionist is also sought (must provide your own instruments). Additional qualifications in improvisation, comfort with odd metered phrases, flexibility, skilled in sight reading, ability to arrange music (as needed for class) also sought but not required. Applicants will also need to be dependable, a team player, and have good organizational skills.
Requirements: The applicant must have successful record of playing for ballet and/or modern dance classes or demonstrate potential to be successful as a music accompanist for dance. S/he needs to be responsive and collaborative to the dance instructor’s lead. The successful candidate will possess the following: a demonstrated record of excellence in dance musicianship, experiences in theatrical and collegiate environment, and a marked interest in collaborating with a dynamic and diverse dance faculty in a Conservatory environment.
