Programs
Bands
The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble provide opportunities for band musicians to perform a wide range of repertoire covering a variety of periods and styles. Intensive sectional training is also provided.
Chamber Music
All students participate in small, professionally coached chamber groups such as brass, percussion, string, woodwind and mixed chamber ensembles.
Dance
Intermediate and advanced dancers, ages 12-18, participate in two daily technique classes offered in ballet, modern dance and jazz. Studies in improvisation, choreography and repertoire support the technical training and prepare the dancers for performance. Dancers present a concert of repertoire created during the camp, frequently in collaboration with camp musicians and choral ensembles.
Harp
By participating in the Harp Ensemble, students develop their musical and technical skills. Selected harpists also participate in orchestras, bands or chamber ensembles with other instrumentalists.
Jazz
The jazz program is organized to accommodate students of various levels of jazz experience. Stylistic interpretation, improvisation and sight-reading skills are stressed in a performance-oriented program.
Piano
Classes and lessons are designed for pianists, grades 6-12, with at least two years of previous instruction. Pianists also have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with other instrumentalists.
Percussion
For the first time ever, there will be a percussion ensemble included amongst the many excellent ensembles offered at this years camp. It will be directed by Earl Yowell, Director of Percussion Studies, at Shenandoah Conservatory, and former Principal Timpani/Percussion with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Come join us in a fun ensemble where counting rests is the exception not the rule!
Orchestras
Weekly performances in one of two orchestras expose students to some of the world’s finest orchestral literature and exceptional conductors. The Sinfonia and the Symphony rehearse daily and include sectional practices for more intensive study.
Solo Performance Opportunities
Students may perform as soloists or in small groups daily at Noon Recitals or in one of the Showcase Recitals. In addition, students can participate in the Concerto Competition to perform as soloists with the orchestra.
Technology
Students will be able to take elective classes in emerging digital technologies (audio, video, Web, DVD and others). SoundTree, a recognized leader in media education, will conduct these classes. Students are invited to bring their digital cameras, iPods and laptops.
Vocal Performance
Two choruses, middle and high school, rehearse daily and perform a concert at the end of each week. Students in the Vocal Division also receive weekly private lessons, masterclasses and participate in a hand bell ensemble.
