Academic Programs Parish Nursing Program Wonderful interfaith programs that prepare registered nurses to assume the role of a parish nurse are provided through the School of Nursing at Shenandoah University. Courses are offered for continuing education, as well as, BSN and MSN credit. Parish nurses care for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. The roles of a parish nurse include: health counselor/educator, case manager, colunteer coordinator, and health referral/resource person. They are members of the church staff. Church Music Institute In addition to offering Bachelor and Master degrees in Church Music, each summer Shenandoah University offers the "Church Music Institute." This one-week or two-week institute is for amateur and professional church musicians, choir members, and clergy. Included during the week are: worship planning, choral & organ reading sessions, handbells, children, youth, & adult planning & hands-on, practical ideas and demonstrations on how to make music in worship dynamic, inspiring, and worshipful for everyone in the congregation. Some of the nation's top clinicians are invited each year to lead the institute with fresh, creative ideas for the church musician and pastor. Plan, Prepare and Participate. Christian Leadership Program The Religion Department offers both a major and a minor program. Along with both, a student may choose to also enroll in the Christian Leadership Program. This certificate program is designed to prepare lay and clergy leadership for the church. Religion Major This is a general religious curriculum designed to be an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural program, which builds a strong foundation for those students looking toward a vocation in religions academia and/or in the ministry. Religion Minor This degree program is designed for students who want to major in another area of study, but who feel a call to learn about God and the history of religion.
