Mission and Community Service

Spring Break Mission Trip

Through the United Methodist "Volunteer-In-Mission" program, the Chaplain's Office offers a mission work trip to places in the Carribean and Latin America. The Student Mission Team links arms with the United Methodist Church in the foreign country to serve in any capacity needed to fulfill their vision for ministry in their country. Past Spring Break trips include Jamaica, Mexico City, the Dominican Republic & Panama..

Habitat for Humanity

The Winchester Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and Shenandoah University have worked well together to build affordable homes for the working poor. Students, faculty, and staff have all rolled up their sleeves and helped the community "raise a house" for a family to live and grow in love.

Gleaning Projects - "Harvest of Hope"

Each Fall semester, students gather on designated Saturdays to go into the orchards and fields to harvest fruits and vegetables for the local Food Bank, which offers fresh produce for those who need food for their families.

Salvation Army

Each year offerings are collected to help the Salvation Army in their mission to the poor and homeless. Students also volunteer time to help serve meals at the local Salvation Army shelter, which houses 55-75 people each night---many of them families.

Oxfam "Fast for a World Harvest"

Each November, during the national "Fast for a World Harvest," students have the opportunity to fast for all or part of the day. The money saved is then sent to Oxfam, an interantional relief and development organization that is working for lasting solutions to poverty, suffering, and injustice.
