Spring Tour

"A Mere Question of Time"
Petersburg, June 1864, April 1865.

May 14-17, 2003


We will be taking a comprehensive tour of the siege of Petersburg, emphasizing City Point and Beauregard's defense.

The tour will travel by bus to Petersburg on Thursday, May 15, and return on Saturday, May 17. The registration fee, including lodging for 2 nights, is $280.00 per person. The fee, excluding lodging, is $160.00 per person. The basic fee covers transportation, the tour, the reception on the 14th, lunch on the 15th, 16th and 17th, dinner on the 15th, and 16th, and the lecture and conference fees.

Highlights of the tour include the Wednesday night reception at Jordan Springs, outside of Winchester, the annual lecture by Dr. Charles P. Roland to be given on Friday, and the wind-up barbecue at Fort Collier in Winchester on Saturday.


Tour Staff

Tommy Barber is Professor of History at Georgia Perimeter College and Past President of the Georgia Civil War Commission

Dr. Brandon H. Beck is Director of the McCormick Civil War Institute at Shenandoah University

Jim Blankenship is a Historian at Petersburg National Battlefield whose areas of expertise include the siege of Petersburg and artillery in the Civil War.

Stephen L. Ritchie is Historian and Guide of the McCormick Civil War Institute.

Dr. Charles P. Roland is Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky. A prolific author, he is the author of Albert Sidney Johnston: Soldier of Three Republics; The Confederacy; An American Iliad: The Story of the Civil War; Reflections on Lee: A Historian's Assessment; and Jefferson Davis' Greatest General: Albert Sidney Johnston.
