TSOL 511: Current Issues in
TESOL I
Seminar examines current issues in teaching English as a second or
foreign language, using a variety of sources including Internet
discussion groups. Focus is on topics found through the Internet. One
credit.
TSOL 512: Current
Issues in TESOL II
Seminar examines current issues in teaching English as a second
language or foreign language, using a variety of sources including
Internet discussion groups. Focus is on topics covered in the first
tier of courses in the MSEd-TESOL program. Prerequisites: TSOL 511 and
at least one of these first-tier courses: ENG 501, TSOL 501, or TSOL
521. One credit.
TSOL 513: Current
Issues in TESOL III
Seminar examines current issues in teaching English as a second or
foreign language, using a variety of sources including Internet
discussion groups. Focus is on topics covered in the second tier of
courses in the MSEd- TESOL program. Prerequisites: TSOL 512 and at
least one of these second-tier courses: TSOL 522, TSOL 541, or TSOL
561. One credit.

About the
Courses
These
1-credit courses are offered every trimester. M.S.Ed.-TESOL students
are required to take all three in sequence; in exceptional cases, a
student may be allowed to take more than one at a time.
The courses have several purposes:
- To
examine important current issues in the field of TESOL.
- To
provide experience in identifying and analyzing TESOL issues.
- To give
practice in using major channels of communication in TESOL.
- To
stimulate the development of research interests.
- To
acquaint students with their classmates' viewpoints and interests.

Textbooks
An
important source of input will be the TESL-L electronic discussion
forum. Students are also expected to show knowledge of course textbooks
and other materials, as appropriate. |

Schedule
There are no class meetings or assigned topics. The Issue
