Evaluation and selection of authentic and commercial materials for teaching and testing ESL/EFL. Techniques for adapting or constructing original language teaching materials, developing and validating language tests and assessments. Three credits.

About the Course

This course examines the instruments used for teaching and testing English as a second language. It considers technical and practical aspects of language test design and construction; explores the links between methods and materials; and investigates the advantages and disadvantages of authentic, commercial, and in-house materials and assessments. It also gives students hands-on experience in various phases of test and materials design, including an introduction to the use of Blackboard for Internet courses.
