Programs
The Advanced Professional Certificate in TESOL is designed to prepare
its graduates to teach English to speakers of other languages in any
environment. This 18-credit program includes the courses in the
Professional Certificate in TESOL (see description), adding coursework
on language and culture, second language acquisition and language
teaching materials and assessments.This program contains most of the
substantive courses required for the Master of Science in Education
(TESOL Concentration), and all of the Advanced Professional Certificate
in TESOL courses can be applied toward that degree. (This is NOT a licensure program. This
program is NOT for those seeking the Add-On Endorsement in ESL; see the
Add-On Endorsement program
description.)
Admission Requirements for
the Advanced Professional Certificate in TESOL
Admission to the Advanced Professional Certificate
in TESOL program requires a bachelor’s degree from a recognized
university or college.Applicants must have at least one of the
following: 3.0 undergraduate grade point average (4.0 scale), 3.0 grade
point average for prior graduate courses or satisfactory GRE scores
(general test) earned no more than five years prior to enrollment.
Applicants whose native language is not English must submit a
satisfactory TOEFL score earned no more than 12 months prior to the
date of enrollment. All applicants must also submit an essay.
