"Shenandoah University is on the frontline of online TESOL training."
--Thomas Nixon, ESL Magazine, May/June 2003, p.23

"I've been offered a full-time 2 year contract...as an ESP Trainer.... None of this would have been possible without your help. I can't tell you how much I have learnt and grown as a professional during the last three years, and also how much I miss my courses at Shenandoah!" Sarah F.

"I want you to know that I appreciate all the work you put into the SU TESOL program. I'm very grateful that I chose your program for my Masters.  I can't rave enough about it. I have a Masters in Social Work, which I got from [another university] in a traditional program. There is no comparison between the programs. I feel I learned so much more at SU and was much better prepared to do my job upon graduation. SU helped me to become a much better teacher. Thank you for all you've done." Allan H.

"I have learned an incredible amount already! I've been an ESL tutor (both formally and informally) and so had some ideas coming into the program, but have been just knocked over by the quality of the materials and the teaching of the courses. I am deeply indebted to you for your efforts to make this a program that is available for distance students." Danice N.

"I am in my second week teaching. I just want to thank the two of you for what I have learned from the classes so far. What I have learned has been essential for the teaching I have done even in these first few days. I am a Texas-certified ESL teacher in the public schools. But most of what I have really used comes from the classes from you two." Steve B.

"I have completed 2 tapes and am halfway through the third. You are right, the tapes of the classes make all the difference. I can see why other schools are intrigued by SU's forward thinking. ...  I was slightly concerned about the difference between instruction received via online and classroom. However, I cannot see any material difference between the two using the tapes and Blackboard for discussion. In fact, I think it may be better because of the ability to read and reflect on the discussion as opposed to the spontaneity of the classroom. Although, both are worthwhile." Pepper B.

"By the way, I want you to know that I have learned a lot from you-- via video. Your presentations are always delightful, a great mix of serious material and humor." Sarah S.

"I just wanted to let you know that I use what I learned this summer in Linguistics and Language Teaching Methods all day, every day in my work. Thanks for such practical teaching!!!!!!" Karen M.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and Dr. Murphy for all the time and energy you put into this program. I am very impressed with the quality of the program and the way it is structured. It can't be easy to keep distance students motivated and informed. You two do a terrific job. I recommend the program every chance I get." Mary Kay B.

"I started the program thinking it was something I really should do but not necessarily wanted to do. I ended up thoroughly enjoying the experience and it left me eager to do more." Rob W.

"I never thought that I would be able to evaluate texts when I first previewed the assignment at the beginning of the course. But now I feel like I am getting a handle on it after watching you in the class. I continue to be impressed with the quality and breadth of this program and I hold you and Dr. Murphy in the highest esteem. Every graduate student should be so fortunate!" Marlene P.

"I got everything I needed and wanted out of the SU program! I made a midlife decision to change careers while continuing my job as a sales manager. ... It all came to fruition two months ago, and I am now the first fulltime ESL teacher in my county to be hired with local funds. ... The most valuable part of the program was the plethora of websites, chatrooms, and other resources that I was introduced to. My world kept expanding over the two years I was a student. ... You will get as much out of the program as you put in. ... If you have a vision of what you want to learn or what you want to do, you will be amazed at how many resources there are out there to help you!" Jessica L.

"I can't even begin to tell you and Dr. Hastings about how much I've enjoyed being a student in your TESOL program. Sure I'm excited about being so close to graduation finally, but I do feel a certain sadness as my academic journey at Shenandoah is quickly coming to an end. Thank you so much for what has been a truly wonderful learning experience!" Elisabeth G.
