Introduction to the
scientific study of language with emphasis on current linguistic trends
in major areas of linguistic studies: phonetics, phonology, syntax,
semantics; applied linguistics, historical linguistics,
psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics.

About the Course
This course will explore the English language from the viewpoint of
linguistics -- the discipline which examines the nature and use of
language. Topics to be dealt with include the history of English; the
nature of dialects; and the phonological, morphological, lexical,
semantic, and syntactic components of the language.
