DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

Title Student Assistant
Department Development
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Please sign in and sing out each day on the Sign In sheet with the Development Secretary. Your time card will be signed by the secretary.
  • Please keep tone of conversation to a quiet level. We encourage laughter, but we have a lot of different jobs to accomplish in a short amount of time and we expect quality work to be completed in an efficient and thorough manner. Also, do not congregate in the hall ways. It is distracting to have a group of people chatting and laughing while someone else is working in their office on a deadline.
  • Always return all items used such as labels, books, etc. back where you found them. Each desk needs to be kept neat and clean at the end of the day and bookshelves need to be orderly. Please clean up your mess if you are involved in that type of project. The Office needs to be kept as orderly as possible because we have so many events going on in the Bowman Ball Room during the evenings exposing our workspace to visitors of the University.
  • You will each be assigned to a particular Development Office staff member. Always check to see if there is any filing for that person to be done when you first arrive. Keeping the filing up to date is a priority and doing it in small increments each week works best. If you have completed all of your work for your assigned staff member and there is nothing pending for that person., report to the Development Secretary for further assignments.
  • The phone should be answered, "Development Office, (your name) speaking." Message pads will be provided. The procedures of operation and transferring calls will be reviewed with each of you upon your reporting to work.
  • You will have a file to be kept in the server where the coffee pot is sitting. Please check your file after signing in to find your work assignments for the day.
Skills and Qualifications
  • General office knowledge
Dress Code Dress for the office should be clean, neat and in line with accepted office attire. Please, no midriff tops, fish-net t-shirts, short shorts, or bare feet. The Development Office staff are representatives of
Shenandoah University (including you) and we need to put our best foot forward at all times. We have constituents coming into the office for appointments, sometimes without notice, and we need to set a good professional appearance.
