Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duplicate class handouts and other Environmental Studies (ES) and field biology materials, and assist in setting up lab exercises
  • Type up instructional materials and ES program correspondence
  • Maintain ES program records, including job/internship file and bulletin board
  • Assist in maintaining the ES laboratory and greenhouse
  • Maintain greenhouse, herbarium, and Native Plants Garden
  • Perform library research tasks, as necessary

Skills and Qualifications

  • The ability to type and to use word-processing programs, or a willingness to develop and use these skills
  • Dependability and punctuality--the student assistant must establish and adhere to a weekly schedule of work hours
  • Maturity--the student assistant will need to be able to work independently, communicate needs and concerns, and make decisions without constant supervision or reminders

This position offers the student an opportunity to learn and apply new skills. Depending on the student's interests and ES program priorities, other tasks besides those listed above will be assigned. These possibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Collection, identification and preservation of natural history specimens

Development of campus tree inventory

Development of visual aids and other instructional materials

Performance of various research tasks
