Duties and Responsibilities
  • Students assigned to Circulation will be expected to perform routine circulation activities, such as shelving materials, checking out books and scores, assisting patrons with the use of reserve and periodical materials, issuing library cards, and taking in fines and other fees.
  • Students assigned to the Technical Services department will be expected to perform routine clerical duties, such as typing, filing, simple word processing, processing library materials, and assisting with other duties related to receiving and preparing books, scores and media.
  • Those of you assigned to the Media Center will be expected to perform routine circulation activities, shelving these items upon their return, assisting patrons with their viewing and listening needs, checking out equipment to faculty, and working on the recording crew.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Reliable Attendance--report to work promptly; work fully assigned shifts; notify supervisor prior to all absences; locate and send a replacement if you must be absent
  • Initiative--perform assigned tasks without prompting; be willing to work at difficult tasks or tasks you may not particularly like
  • Responsible Attitude and Behavior--take job seriously; perform work accurately
  • Positive Attitude--accept assignments willingly; cooperate with others to achieve mutual goals; contribute to a pleasant work environment
  • Adherence to Library Policies and Procedures--Learn and follow established Library policies and procedures; keep patron information confidential
  • Good Service--always provide good and positive service; always be pleasant and available; people before paperwork
Dress Code All student aides who work in the Library are expected to dres sin a manner that is appropriate for this work environment. The following statement from the University Personnel Policy Manual applies to library work-study as well: "Moderation and good taste in dress are required. Clothing should be neat, clean and appropriate to the work environment as determined by the supervisor."

Examples of apparel which not considered appropriate are: hats, bare feet, apparel which is overly revealing, clothing on which statements or illustrations are explicitly obscene or profane or may be construed as obscene or profane.

Student workers who are required to move equipment or perform other duties of a physical nature should dress accordingly and safely.
