How Do I Do That?

How Do I ...

register for classes?

When you attend Summer Orientation, your advisor from your program will present you with your schedule. Some students receive their schedule via e-mail before their scheduled Summer Orientation date, so make sure that the e-mail address that we have on record for you is current.

get my student ID?

Your picture will be taken the morning that you arrive at Summer Orientation. If for some reason you miss the morning opportunity, you can go to Auxiliary Services located in the Wilkins Administrative Building when you arrive on campus in August and get your ID there.

know what my e-mail account information is?

Your e-mail address will be activated once you are registered for classes; so after you get your classes from your Summer Orientation date, it will be soon after that you will have your very own SU e-mail address. Your e-mail address will be the first letter of your first name followed by the first seven letter of your last name @su.edu. For example, if your name is Mary Cavanaugh, your e-mail address would be mcavanau@su.edu. If you have a common last name such as Smith, there is a high probability that there is more than one of you on campus. If that is the case, please contact Institutional Computing at 540-665-5555 and they will help you with your e-mail. REMEMBER: You will not have an e-mail account until you are registered for classes.

where is my mailbox and how do I get the information about it?

When you arrive on campus and check into your residence hall, you will be given a check-in sheet that will have your campus mail box number. If that is not on your sheet, please go to the Campus Mail (located in Brandt Student Center in Fall 2008) and ask for your box number there.

park/get a permit?

Please refer to the parking regulations located on the Public Safety website; there is a link to that on the left hand side of this page. You are required to have a parking permit on your car at all times while you are on campus. The permits can be purchased in the Business Office and you will need to know your license number. There are signs located at each parking lot that tell you which color permit is allowed to park in each lot and remember the parking garage is opened to all Shenandoah University parking permits.

get help with roommate issues?

Living with another person that you don't know at all or very well is an adjustment; so residence life  takes great care to place you with someone they believe you will be compatible with. If you feel as if it is not going smoothly, try to talk it out with your roommate. We also encourage you to speak with your Resident Assistant and/or Resident Director to see if they can help you. If the situation is still not resolving itself, please call or e-mail to set-up a time to talk to our Housing Coordinator or Director of Residence Life. Their offices are located in Cooley Hall.

get help finding/becoming a tutor?

The Office of Academic Success has tutors for many of the subjects on campus. They will match you up with one of their student tutors who will set up meetings with you to help you. If you are doing really well in a subject, and could use some extra cash, please contact Academic Success about becoming a tutor.

get in a student organization on campus?

Student Organizations are a great way to get involved in campus and make new friends. We have a number of groups that are very active on campus that you can choose from. Please go to the Student Activities page for a list of all of the current groups on campus.
